Resident Evil 6 Hands On From Comic Con 2012

During our coverage of the 2012 Comic Con in San Diego, I got the chance to play Resident Evil 6 which is shaping up to be one of the fall’s hottest titles. Set in China I get a chance to take on the infected hordes and dutifully used my pistol to take down as many of them as I could which was not an easy task with a limited supply of ammo.

During the gameplay session I made my way through a building before heading down into a lower level with only my A.I. companion for company. Upon encountering an infected adversary, a few quick shots to the head not only resulted in this satisfying spray of gore but put them down for good. As I attempted to enter a locked area, an alarm sounded which was like ringing a dinner bell to every goon in the area.

Before long we were under siege but thankfully switching to dual wield pistols helped even the score as the infected climbed into windows and crowded the narrow hall. That is until my ammunition ran dry and I was forced to melee my way through the crowd and stomp various enemies into submission.

When the door mercifully opened and after we pushed into a new room, we were confronted by two persistent individuals trying to force the door open as we tried to close it. Thankfully a quick switch to my knife and a few slashes ended their aggressions and allowed us to close the door behind us.

Entering the courtyard allowed us to enjoy the night visuals but once again had us under attack in no time. Thankfully I found a plan to replenish my diminished health and then found some more ammunition to get back in the fight. This came just in time as we were descended upon and forced to fight for our very survival with our backs pressed firmly to the wall of a building and infected advancing from all sides.

Graphically the game shines and the third person perspective really helped immerse you in the action. I was told that there are several playable characters in game and fans of the series will be happy to know that there are quite a few surprises planned as well.

The control system was very comfortable to any fan of the series as I was up and blasting and no time as well as changing weapons with ease.

While my session time flew by, I was extremely impressed with not only the gameplay in visuals but with the immersive nature of the game. The action was ferocious and satisfying just like when I put a stop down on an infected scumbag.

Look for Resident Evil 6 this October for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems with PC version follow soon after.
