Those cute little feathery spy guys are back in an all new action packed adventure. If you are unfamiliar with the Penguins of Madagascar animated series on Nick there is no need to worry. Here is a quick rundown; Skipper is the leader, Kowalski is the brains, Rico is the loose cannon, and Private is the rookie. This film takes off right after Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted when the Penguins are trying to escape from the Afro Circus song that seems to be driving everybody insane but also shows how they became a group and got their start.
Penguins of Madagascar is an animated film that centers around penguins who started their ‘film careers’ in the movie ‘Madagascar’.
Penguins is fast paced, almost frenetic at times, and seriously, SERIOUSLY funny.
Much of the humor is aimed at the kids, but there is plenty directly targeted at the adults in the crowd, and it will likely go straight over the heads of the younger audience, even though they won’t know it, and they won’t miss it.
The voice actors who bring the penguins to life are Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Conrad Vernon and Christopher Knights, and they do so with an enthusiasm that is a joy to be able to see (hear).
John Malkovich plays the villainous octopus named Dave, and Benedict Cumberbatch plays a grey wolf who is a secret agent. His name is ‘classified’.
The movie centers around Dave’s plot to kidnap penguins from all of the world’s zoos and turn them into monsters.
The penguins, Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, operate as a team of commandos trying to rescue the kidnapped penguins. The wolf and his team of Navy-Seal like cohorts join in and attempt to help.
