Has Sony Done Enough For PS+ Subscribers

Sony is riding a wave of console sales and gearing up for their Expo in Vegas this weekend which has fans and industry professionals wondering what the company will do next.

Taking a step aside from the speculation, I wanted to look at the Playstation + and ask if Sony is doing enough for fans of the service.

With over 7.9 million subscribers to the service, I signed up on launch day for the PS4 but was at first a bit concerned that the free online play that I enjoyed with my PS2 and PS3 had now become a pay service.
My concerns were quickly allayed as not only did I get a solid online gaming experience, but the free games offered each month for the PS3, PS4, and Vita were a huge plus.

Even though I had many of them, I noted the quality of the titles coming for the PS3, and imagined what the PS4 would have in the future.

With the recent delay for the PS+ Driveclub version, many fans had voiced concern that as great as some of them are, the casual games being offered from independent publishers was growing old and that more content was needed for the PS4.

While nobody was expecting Sony to offer up Killzone: Shadowfall, or Infamous: Second Son just yet, some had pointed to Knack being an idea and other titles that were now coming up on a year past release.
Thankfully Sony stepped up with Injustice: Gods Among Us: Ultimate Edition and is rumored to be offering Infamous: First Light in January. While the Independent games have been good, I find them to be a brief distraction for the most part as I prefer the more AAA titles myself, but admit that there have been many quality games offered so much so that finding time for all of them can be tough while balancing our normal review schedule.

For me getting quality games, regardless if they are of interest to me or not is a nice feature of the service as it is interesting to see what is being offered each month. I would say that I have been more impressed with what has been offered for the PS3 in recent months, but it does appear that Sony is looking to up the content that is being offered for the PS4 and will be making a push to do more in the future.
With that being said, Sony has to look at the fact that with all the PS3 and PS4 units sold, that only 7.9 million have signed up to date. Curious when you consider that 15 million PS4 units have been sold and that PS+ is required for online play.

Sony needs to continue to promote what is being offered and the value it features as a single game such as Injustice is comparable to the cost of the service for a year. Time will tell what the future holds but for me, Sony has a good service, they just need to do more to promote it and explain the value.

Lets see. Just checked. I have received over 400 games and themes and freebies with PlayStation Plus over the last 4 years and a half. I am not even including “Freebies” like Sly 1 HD and God of War HD given away randomly during March 2013 when Sly 4 and God of War Ascension launched or ALL the Fallout 3 DLC we got in November 2010. And that is still not even including features like Cloud Saves (a feature PSN got before the almighty Xbox Live Gold Subscription), betas and EXCLUSIVE demos i.e. demos that never showed up for Gold Subscribers on Live and game updates that check all your games have the latest updates installed and applies them (don’t act like this is nothing when Xbox owners spent last gen complaining about installs/updates on PS3 as being too plentiful even though 360 games got updates too).
Yep, I can confirm they are doing enough for me ^_^
