The new animated film from DreamWorks, is titled ‘Home’ and stars the voices of Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez.

Its a sci-fi animated film for kids. The alien race is called the Boov. The alien Commander, Captain Smek (Steve Martin), chooses Earth to ‘invade’ in order to hide from their enemy the Gorg, who is chasing the Boov. One of the Boov, named ‘Oh’ (Jim Parsons) for the exasperated sound the other Boov make any time he’s around, desperately wants to belong and have friends. Oh sends a message through email for a house warming party, and accidentally hits ‘send all’ to the entire universe. Oh tries to flee from all the Boov trying to hunt him down, (they want his password to stop the message). He runs into “Tip” Tucci (Rihanna), a stubborn young girl that got accidentally left behind when the Boov relocated all the humans to Australia. Tip is intent and focused on finding and being reunited with her mother (Jennifer Lopez).

Oh and Tip team up, and although Oh is determined to run away at every opportunity, Tip is too stubborn to give up looking for her mom and no matter what is thrown in their path, pushes on, teaching Oh lessons along the way about what having friendships and family really mean.

Home has a great soundtrack, and the songs really match the story line well. It has lots of bright colors, and only one potentially scary part that turns out happily in the end.

There are not many jokes or comedy that is targeted to adults, unlike most other recent animated films, this movie really is through and through for kids. Even though its message is targeted at children, however, I enjoyed the film, as did my husband. We both shed a tear or two at the end, my son (6.5) claims he did not.

I would give this movie 3.75 stars out of 5.
