YouTube Creators Unite For Epic Warcraft Themed Capture-The-Flag Showdown

Team Captains Markiplier and IHasCupQuake lead a brutal Horde vs Alliance IRL battle in celebration of the launch of WARCRAFT in theaters June 10th

BURBANK, Calif., June 2, 2016 – Just days before WARCRAFT explodes into theaters on June10th, fans will be treated to a rare collaboration of some of the biggest names in YouTube as they go head-to-head in an epic battle for dominion and bragging rights during Legendary’s WarcraftIRL event. It’s Horde versus Alliance as captains Markiplier (Alliance) and IHasCupQuake (Horde) lead teams which included 36 of the top creators in the YouTube community in a game of “capture-the-flag,” inspired by the gaming mode of the same name in the popular World of Warcraft MMORPG. Commanding a collective legion of more than 55 Million subscribers, the WarcraftIRL teams included YouTube favorites such as Phil DeFranco, Jimmy Wong from Rocket Jump, CaptainSparklez, OMGItsFirefoxx and MatPat of The Game Theorist, all of whom are either former or current Warcraft game players, each eager to strike a blow to their adversary and claim another victory for either the Horde or Alliance.

“Competing in a real life Warcraft Capture the flag event is a definite dream come true, said YouTube influencer Bajheera.” “Playing the Warcraft game actually lead me to my current job and my dream girl so it’s been a life changing game for me and I’m incredibly excited for the world to experience the Warcraft movie and get a little taste of what the game has meant to all of us.”

WarcraftIRL players took to a custom built arena built and conceptualized by award-winning content studio, Portal A in collaboration with Two Bit Circus, known for the game design on ABC’s Wipeout. Gameplay included exploding color bombs, unrelenting battles on the bridge, time outs in the Graveyard and the elusive flags flying high over “Black Morass” for the Horde and “Stormwind” for the Alliance. Following the shoot, social media exploded with organic postings from the competitors who each vlogged and shared incredible behind-the-scenes photos from the battle, all using the hashtag#WarcraftIRL.

Filmed entirely on the Universal Studios backlot in partnership withYouTube Gaming, WarcraftIRL sought to bring to life the epic rivalry that has captivated the online gaming community for decades and is being brought to life on the big screen in the highly anticipated WARCRAFT film.
