Monster Force Zero

Nathan Letteer’s Monster Force Zero looks at the life of Calvin Cashill (aka A.I.) whose comic book (which is also the title of this work) is not winning accolades. He’s constantly bullied. Despite challenges to his geekhood, he holds his own, but he does need the help of his friends in a cosplay battle against the Destroyers of Destruction. However, there’s more to them than meets the eye, and an innocent fight between fans shoots them to the stars ala The Last Starfighter to a greater conflict.
I’m more intrigued with the albino ape than the other characters. We have a few terrific cameos like the retired wrestler Tanaka and underrated Starfleet alumni Garrett Wang providing some lighter moments to guide the tale along. I hoped this former ensign would have had a bigger role in this film, but these days, the actor turned talk show host is behind the scenes more often to support fandom far and wide. I’m more curious if additional footage of him exists as he aids these adventurers from a monitor. I want to see it as a DVD extra.

Monster Force Zero is definitely the type of work I’d expect to find playing at a convention. As for whether all fans can relate or laugh along, that’ll be up to crowds to decide.
