Marvel’s What If…? Is A Fun And Creative New Series For The Marvel Universe

The latest Disney+ Marvel series; What If…? lands on the service on August 11th and offers fans an alternate look at some of their favorite characters and stories.

I used to read the comic series which the show is based upon and fondly remember such stories as What if Cyclops had his beams emerge from his ears versus his eyes or what if Aunt May was secretly Aunt Man amongst many humorous scenarios.

The series features Jeffrey Wright as a Watcher who frames and narrates each episode. I was given the chance to view three episodes of the series and was very impressed with the animation and stories.

One storyline asked what would have happened if Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell); and not Steve Rogers was given the super serum. The result was the creation of a new here where the events of “Captain America: The First Avenger” play out differently as Carter must deal with the sexism of the age as well as her new abilities.

Supporting cast such as Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, and Stanley Tucci amongst others return to voice their animated counterparts.

The second episode posed a scenario where T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) was taken from Earth instead of Peter Quill and he ended up becoming Star-Lord. The events of “Guardians of the Galaxy” play out very different and Michael Rooker and the returning cast do a great job.

The final episode I watched was a clever mystery where several Avengers were being killed off and there was a race to see who and why this was happening in stories set around the films leading up to the first Avenger movie.

While some segments at times had flat moments; by and large they were really great and drew me in. Aside from the animation and great voice work; there are multiple cameos and Easter Eggs which make the show an absolute must for Marvel fans and one you will not want to miss.
