Ms. Marvel Is A Pleasant New Series In The Marvel Universe

Marvel has revealed its latest series for Disney+ with the arrival of Ms. Marvel which chronicles the adventures of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a teenager trying her best to appease her traditional family but find her place in the world as she attends school.

Kamal is eager to attend an Avenger-themed convention and her free-spirited ways do not sit well with her mother who wants her to avoid her fascination with fantasy and be more like her brother who is preparing to be married.

Between her family, school, and friends, Kamala has a busy life and when she abruptly gains powers, she now has a new identity and must uncover a family secret that may be the key to everything.

The first two episodes were very enjoyable as there is a good deal of time spent introducing the characters and their life before the superpowers arrive and that is one of the great strengths of the show as you get the time to understand them before the action and FX arrive which combine to make a fuller origin story than many may be used to seeing.

The series has an engaging charm as does the cast which captures your attention from the start and the focus on Kamala’s family and her conflict with finding her place in the world while being true to her family and culture is very enjoyable to see.

The finale of episode 2 sets up some interesting possibilities and it will be interesting to see where the series goes in the future but I have to say that Ms. Marvel has exceeded my expectations and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

  1. MARVEL will air weekly on Disney+ beginning June 8, 2022.
