Is Sony Doing Enough With PS5 Exclusives
I want to say at the start of this that I am not a bash on the Playstation or Sony as I have been a very satisfied PS owner from the start and have enjoyed our PS5 from the day it arrived on launch week. My gaming platform of choice is a PC but I have consoles for their exclusives and have enjoyed the vast variety of titles the Playstation has released over the years.
That being said, I think more needs to be done with the PS5 in terms of exclusives as I find my system taking the path of the Switch and Wii U and gathering dust from a lack of use.
I am sure the release of God of War Ragnarok will be a welcome addition but if I am being honest, it is not the big draw for me that the franchise once was and like the recently released Horizon Forbidden West, I am pondering if waiting for it to possibly come on PC is a better option to consider as the price point is likely to be better.
I am very interested in the release of PSVR 2 and I cannot wait to see the games that are coming for it as of late, the PSVR games and Just Dance are the main things we have been using our PS5 system for.
While I am a fan of Naughty Dog, I find that I have next to no interest in the new Last of Us game and wonder what happened to eagerly anticipate a multitude of quality exclusives.
Thankfully there are some very good third-party releases on the way from The Callisto Protocol, Dead Space, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which I am sure will look and play amazingly well on the system but again, I do intend to play them on a PC vs the PS5 so I again am looking for exclusives that just do not seem to be there.
I understand that a shortage of units may be part of the reason and that developers are looking to make their games as widely available as possible which considering Sony’s recent dip into PC releases does help account for it but I cannot help but wonder if the glory days of the PS4 offering gamers a flood of system exclusives may be a thing of the past.
Sony has always kept its cards close to its vest and with a minimal closed-door-only presence at Gamescom and no planned appearance at PAX West, it does seem like they are content to keep with their recent model of avoiding larger gaming shows and sticking to State of Play reveals and hopefully we will have one soon detailing PSVR 2 release date information.
Gran Turismo 5 and Forspoken are also coming out but neither has raised my interest level to date and I find myself hoping that the wait for Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine is not unbearably long as they have some real potential.
Hopefully, the new God of War will be everything we have hoped for and there will be more exclusives coming sooner rather than later but for now, I keep wondering what Sony has up their sleeves to reveal or if the day of the AAA system exclusives is rapidly becoming a thing of the past especially since Microsoft has successfully used a PC/Xbox strategy and with their recent purchases of Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard forced Sony to at least rethink the console exclusive strategy.
Only time will tell but at least we still have a quality system to enjoy whatever we play on it, I just wish there were more exclusives in the works to really show off what the system can do.
