Twitching to Get to the Top
While aspiring gamers and entertainers vie for the title of most popular Twitch star, the platform’s most well-known names have already amassed millions of followers. Despite increased competition from YouTube and Facebook Gaming, streaming has continued to snowball – but Twitch remains the leader in live streaming content. Streamers with millions of followers are at the top of the heap, attracting tens of thousands of viewers as soon as they hit the ‘go live’ button. Streamers share just about every type of content out there these days, from playing video games, to playing poker and online casino content. Some streamers have been active for over a decade, while others have only recently emerged. Here are some of today’s most popular Twitch streamers.
Gaules is one of the most talented and well-known Twitch streamers. He is originally from Brazil. He used to be a professional Counter-Strike player before becoming a content creator who broadcasts VALORANT and CS:GO tournaments on Twitch. Aside from that, he enjoys a variety of video games. He has a large fan base, and many people enjoy watching his daily live streaming. His streams have been observed for a total of 412 million hours.
Ibai is the first in a series of Spanish streamers you may never have heard of. Ibai Llanos is a long-time League of Legends tournament caster whose popularity grew far beyond Riot’s MOBA as he became a cultural icon among Twitch’s Hispanic audience. Ibai worked in various media outlets, establishing himself as a charismatic host and commentator. He now has several top events under his belt, a streaming brand, and a special series on his channel where he hosts talks with famous stars from around the world.
Auronplay has had a successful year in Minecraft, gaining over 4.6 million followers in the last year or so, bringing his total number of followers to 11.6 million. Aside from Minecraft, Auronplay spent a lot of time playing GTA V and a little bit of Rust. In September, the channel received a Twitch ban, which was quickly reversed.
Jaryd Lazar, aka summit1g, is a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Fortnite streamer. This is his full-time job; he uploads between 30 and 40 hours of content per week. Except for Thursdays, he broadcasts most days. Before becoming a full-time streamer, he was a competitive Counter-Strike player for A51 and Team Mythic. He enjoys shooter games but also says he enjoys playing just about anything. Jaryd is a 35-year-old man from Colorado, United States. On January 25, 2018, he became Twitch’s most followed gamer.
Ninja is still the most popular Twitch streamer, with over 18 million followers. Although his channel’s growth has slowed significantly since its initial surge in 2018, Ninja is still the most well-known name in streaming. He made waves in the industry when he signed an exclusive deal with Mixer in 2019. Still, his popularity wasn’t enough to keep the streaming platform running. Before returning to Twitch, he briefly streamed on YouTube and still primarily plays Fortnite after regaining interest in the game.
Rubén Doblas Gundersen began his online career on YouTube. He quickly rose to prominence as the most watched and subscribed Spanish YouTuber. Following a string of controversies and YouTube’s apocalypse in 2017, he moved to Twitch in 2018. His content varies greatly, but it is usually centered on video games in some form or another. He makes gameplay videos, vlogs, and sketches. Many of his sketches are amusing and satirical.
Shroud is a former professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player. He continued his streaming journey on Mixer and Twitch, eventually amassing around 10 million followers on the latter platform, making him the platform’s seventh most-followed creator. His fame stems from his ability in the first-person shooter genre. He’s regarded as one of the best at Fortnite, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Modern Warfare 2, and CS:GO.
Ali “Myth” Kabbani is the captain of the Team SoloMid (TSM) Fortnite squad and is based in the United States. After he began streaming Fortnite Battle Royale in 2017, his popularity skyrocketed. As a result, he has recently shifted gears to focus more on content creation for his viewers.
