Having a Rough Day? Here are 7 Ways you Can Start Feeling Better Right Now

Are you having a bit of a rough day? If so then now is the time for you to take action. This guide will detail some of the best ways you can make yourself feel better instantly.

Breathe

Stop for a moment, and take five deep breaths. Feel the air fill your lungs and then breathe out all of the stale air you have been holding onto. Let all of the fear, anxiety and stress you have been living with, go with it. You can do this any time you want, and it is a great way for you to feel instantly better.

Turn off the News

Another thing you need to do is turn off the news. Quit checking social media or clicking on links that may or may not have any factual basis. Give yourself a bit of a break from feeling hopeless, angry or overwhelmed. If you can do this for 24 hours straight, or even for a week, you may find that you feel better. You can then decide how much of it you’d like to let back into your life.

Focus on Things You Can Control

Sit down and write everything that might be worrying you. Detail everything you are concerned about and then cross off everything that is out of your control. It might be the news, the weather, the economy or even the way people are towards you. There’s not much you can do about things like this right now. When you have done all of that, look at what is left and then focus on that. It may be your thoughts and feelings for example. This is what you can control. When you have come to this realization, then write down how you speak to yourself, and how you are currently taking care of your mind and body. By doing this, you will soon find that you can pinpoint where you’re going wrong. This will allow you to make positive changes going forward, so keep that in mind.

Rest Up

Another thing you need to do is rest up. Take naps, especially if you have never had a daytime snooze before. Have a duvet day where you get into your pajamas and snuggle up in a blanket. Try to do nothing but relax, listen to music and even watch some television. You don’t have to be productive, every second of the day. Rest up, replenish your energy and you’ll soon see things more clearly. If you are feeling numb or exhausted then take the time to cut yourself some slack. Be kind to yourself and you’ll soon find that you are up to more challenges as a result.

Get Outside

Just walking outside can be quite a healing activity. It can also be a mood-changer. Try and go somewhere calming or beautiful. If you can do this then when life gets you down, you’ll soon be able to turn things around. When you are out there and things are in motion, you’ll probably find that you never regret going out. Try to be present and be aware of your surroundings too. This could include taking note of what you can see, smell and hear. By doing this, you can help to make yourself more present, and this can work wonders for your mental health.

Play a Game

Playing a quick brain game is often the best way for you to start unwinding. It doesn’t matter whether you love mahjong or whether you’re partial to the occasional game of poker because there are so many options out there if you want to make the most out of your relaxation time. You can download games to your mobile device if you want, or you can simply play them on your computer. Playing strategy games is a great thing to do as it stops you from thinking about your bad day and what could have gone differently. If you’re stuck for other games to play, chess is a great option.

Listen to Podcasts

Listening to podcasts is a great way for you to unwind. It also helps to keep you grounded and in the present moment. Listen to podcasts that interest you, whether it is about nature, the environment or even politics. If you want to unwind then you can probably find podcasts that relate to this topic. You can listen to podcasts when driving or you can put them on when you’re in bed with a pair of headphones. This will allow you to become more engrossed with whatever it is you’re listening to.
