Abilities 101

Spidey has a ton of abilities that work and there is no use fighting enemies head on or use the abilities separately, spidey works best when you use his abilities in tandem with each other.

  • Spider Power (aka “Punch-Kick Combo”): This is your basic attack. Two punches, then a kick. The kick’s got some range, but it’s a bit slow. Oh, and after you double jump, you get to slam down on people. Sweet!
  • Web Cluster (aka “Sticky Bombs”): These are your bread and butter. You shoot these little web globs that stick to enemies, making them, well, sticky. And that stickiness? It’s what makes your other moves hit like a truck.
  • Get Over Here (aka “Web Yank”): This move’s super versatile. If the enemy’s not sticky, you pull them to you. If they are sticky, you zip to them.
  • Amazing Combo (aka “The Uppercut”): This is your big damage dealer. It’s an uppercut that sends enemies flying. Always try to get them sticky first for that extra oomph.
  • Thwip and Whip (aka “Double Jump”): Exactly what it sounds like. Use it to get around, dodge stuff, and set up that slam-down attack.
  • Spectacular Spin (aka “The ‘Get Sticky’ Ult”): This is your ultimate move. You spin around, making everyone around you super sticky until they’re stunned.

Spidey’s Passives:

  • Spider-Sense: It tingles when enemies are nearby. Keep an ear out.
  • Wall Crawl: You can climb and crawl walls and ceilings. Great for ambushes.

Team Ups:

  • Squirrel Girl: A passive 10% damage increase.
  • Venom: Grants access to Suit Expulsion, creating a circle around Spider-Man, knocking enemies back, and dealing damage. This ability also makes Spidey immune to CC for its duration.

Basic Gameplay: “Hit-and-Run, Baby!”

Spider-Man is an opportunistic backline assassin, meaning you can get as annoying as you can with him. You want to focus on taking out key targets during a fight. Avoid Vanguard characters (tanks) because you don’t have the damage to take them down. Instead, focus on strategists and duelists who are not very mobile and rely on help from their team. Luna Snow, Adam Warlock, Black Widow, and Hawkeye are good targets.

The most important tip is to always weave stickies between attacks and abilities to do more damage. Spidey isn’t good at dealing sustained damage; he’s an in-and-out kind of character.

Here are a couple of easy but effective combos:

Bread and Butter Combo:

  1. Fire a sticky at your enemy.
  2. Use “Get Over Here” to pull yourself towards them.
  3. Follow up with an uppercut6.
  4. If safe, follow up with another sticky and a regular punch.

Hook Combo:

  1. Hook the enemy.
  2. Follow with a sticky into a regular punch.
  3. Quickly sticky them again after the punch lands.
  4. Uppercut them for the finisher.

Advanced Tips and Tricks: Advanced Shenanigans

Alright, web-slingers, time to take your Spidey game to the next level. These tips will separate the good Spider-Men from the amazing ones.

  • Settings Matter: Turn off automatic swing. This gives you more control over your web swings and allows you to web zip by aiming below head height. Also, turn hold to wall crawl on. This allows you to disengage from walls quicker.
  • Web Zip Mastery: Use web zipping to get out of sticky situations, especially indoors. A fun trick is to web zip to the feet of the enemy and uppercut them.
  • Animation Cancels: Spidey’s primary fire can be animation canceled by all of his abilities. Weave it in for some free damage. You can also cancel your slam down with an uppercut for some big damage with the tracers applied.
  • Get Creative with “Get Over Here”: Change your key bind for “Get Over Here” to something else. This allows you to still pull a target towards you whilst they have a tracer on them. You can pull enemies into your team or even off the map.
  • Uppercut Swing Cancel: Use your uppercut to cancel your swing. You still preserve momentum when doing this, so you can get off damage while also being super evasive.
  • Synergize with Your Team: Spidey has great synergy with dive comps and heroes like Hulk. Mantis can buff your damage, and Luna Snow can provide extra heals.
  • Target Priority: Focus on strategists, but be wary of those who can negate your damage or easily escape. Loki can be a difficult target. Punisher and Bucky can also be deadly.

Playing Around Counters:

Every hero has their counters, and Spider-Man is no exception. Here’s how to deal with some common threats:

  • Adam Warlock: Bait out his Soul Bond, which negates your damage.
  • Mantis: Be aware of her sleep ability, which is easy to land on melee heroes.
  • Rocket: His dashes can make it easy to escape before you land your uppercut.
  • Loki: He can make everyone vulnerable and teleport/go invisible, making him hard to kill.
  • Punisher/Bucky: Punisher’s Shrapnel will make light work of you, as well as Bucky’s combo.
  • Noon: His turrets will chip away at you, giving away your location and making you even squishier.

Final Thoughts

Playing Spider-man is all about hit and run, try to always stay in the side lines and when the opportunity arises and when you catch someone alone that’s when you give them the jump and run away so enemies teammates don’t catch you, be as much annoying as you can and try to make more 1v1s rather than jumping on a whole team.

Remember, practice makes perfect. Spend a lot of time in the training range to get the hang of all of spidey’s controls.
