My reasons for this are varied and I will attempt to explain why the Nintendo Switch 2 simply isn’t for me.
The first issue I have is with the price point. $80.0 for games is an insane price point and for an industry that is already hurting this is simply gouging. The price point for the system is also insane as the hardware while improved over the Switch still lags behind older systems from their rivals and I would much rather put the price-point of the Switch 2 towards a 5000 series NVIDIA card or apply it to the next console from Sony.
I have not found the games offered by the Switch very compelling as the Wii U and Switch systems we purchased sat for months gathering dust as after an initial wave of play, the games became very dull for me.
I found the better graphics and online play offered on the Sony and PC platforms to be far more compelling.
The notion of Third-Party games having to be throttled back to play on the Switch was also a factor as I saw the horrible MK1 graphics and saw how other games had to run at a reduced graphical standard and compromised or removed online play to meet the hardware limitations.
Naturally exclusives will be the key and as interesting as a new Mario Kart game to play against our Granddaughter would be, it is not enough to draw me in at the price point.
I have not seen one announced game for the system that I would be interested in having even if the price was lower.
There are also concerns about the P.R. side of things as their P.R. firm has a history of playing bait and switch (no pun intended) with us and other sites but that does not factor in for me it is simply a mater of not being a fan of mobile gaming. For me, the Switch 2 is an overpriced and under-powered system compared to my PC and PS5.
I would rather wait and see what is offered by Sony for my next console as I believe there will be far more compelling titles that are going to feature more advanced graphics and online play.
I am sure that the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be a success and I am likely not the target audience for it and that is fine. I am glad that there is a new system for their fans to embrace I just hope their price points for games does not influence others to raise prices accordingly as this is a dangerous slope.
People who buy the Switch 2 will not have much choice but to pay the prices set by Nintendo and their partners, other platforms may be wise to avoid this path.
i agree with a lot of points made. i was excited about the switch 2 but a lot of the policies and pricing has turned me off
I am curious how well it will do after the early wave when supplies are common; especially if Sony rolls out a new system at a comparable price point. Their PS5 Pro price was alot for most gamers but if they can do a PS6 for aay $550 or less it could be interesting to see how the market goes.
It should also be considered that Nintendo may have a tendency to relax their exclusive schedule as the Switch 2 will be fully stuffed with ports. Sure some Switch only owners will be glad to have them but if you already own a current system then the true value of an underpowered port simply doesn’t exist.
Great point. I have seen people comment that the notion of an $80.00 cost for a port is a big concern.
I just don’t understand why Nintendo feels it can kick off with 80-90 games. But Nintendo isn’t the problem, it’s the zombie brain people who feel they must have it day one. The enablers are the problem for any exaggerated pricing. Nvidia is included as they’re doing the same thing. So, PC isn’t mommy’s Bossom to run to either. We have to start letting products sit on the shelf. I, too, have a decent PC, and I can get games way better than what the Switch 1 or 2 can do at 60,40,30, or even 10 dollars. The reason I’m boycotting the Switch 2 is pricing, and Nintendo has a history of selling old games at new prices.
Exactly. Buying at that price only encourages them and others. Then GTA VI says we can get $100.00 as does Call of Duty as we give free content updates. The industry is hurting and now it’s poised to have even fewer sales if a higher price point follows. People will simply wait for sales or do without.
