The first issue of the event horizon preqcomic serie Event Horizon: Dark Descent has arrived from IDW Publishing and looks to fill in the events leading up to the movie. Following the crew of the ship in the hours leading up to the fateful activation of the Gravity Drive; we learn that like Dr.Weir; many have secrets and trauma that they are running from.
The first issue mainly serves as an introduction to the characters and also gives a little insight into how Dr. Weir was able to resolve some of the technical issues that have been haunting him and caused the tragedy with his wife.
While there are still many questions to be answered in subsequent issues, it was nice to see the early aspects of the mission that began with so much promise and soon became a living nightmare.
The complicated histories of the crew suggests some interesting connections to what is to come for the future in terms of evil preying upon those with secrets and insecurities that can be manipulated.
The movie has gone from being a box office just appointment to a cult classic, and while the proposed series on Prime Video never seemed to get past early planning and Covid, hopefully, with the new leadership in place at Paramount, this comic prequel will lead to more things in the universe.
