As a business, you want to make the process of paying you as pain-free as possible. If you can make it so that your customers hardly notice, you’re immediately onto a winner. 

Unfortunately, only a small minority of businesses ever achieve this. Most of the time, it’s just not possible. But many times, it’s simply a consequence of not being creative enough.

Cash should remain an option, especially as a small business or startup that’s available in person.

You also want to implement one-click purchasing. You need to make it as simple as possible for customers to checkout when they come to you. 

One-click purchasing is available via Apple Pay and Google Pay. You can also get it with various credit card machines and only portals. 

Try to avoid situations where customers are having to fill out entire fields and forms just to check out. This increases friction too much and may lead to churn. 

Leverage Digital Wallets

If you can make use of digital wallets, that’s also a good idea. These are handy for attracting online customers or those concerned about security. Digital wallets are high tech, but you don’t need to worry about integrating them yourself anymore. Numerous merchant providers and other companies will do it for you, setting it up in the background, as long as you have an account with them. 

Automate Billing

Most businesses can’t automate billing, but if yours can, that’s a great strategy. When you do this, you automatically subtract from your customers’ accounts. 

Why does this method work? The main reason is that you can bill according to performance. The more money you make for them, the more you can subtract, which is relatively painless. However, you can also reduce the pain of buying when the billing occurs in the background. Most of the time, customers forget about the bill until they see it leaving their account on their statements. Importantly, they don’t have to make any decisions about whether to buy. There’s no financial pain hurdle they need to climb over. 

Integrate Payment Channels

Lastly, if you can integrate your payment methods across channels, you’re onto a winner. For example, customers should be able to use the same payment methods, whether they’re online, in-store, or in some other hybrid situation. It shouldn’t be challenging for them to move between platforms. Usually, this requires an omnichannel approach where each touchpoint communicates with every other one your business uses.
