What was once old has become new with the release of R-Type Delta: HD Boosted.
The game has been enhanced for modern systems with updated graphics and music and allows players to experience the game anew yet still retains the popular elements of the original.
Players pilot a ship to combat various entities that fire on players from various angles. Deftly dodging fire while destroying enemies can take some skill and thankfully players can enhance their weapons along the way.
The game uses a progression based save system so players must reach a designated point in order to progress. Failing to do so and losing a life will result in having to repeat a segment until completed.
While this is in keeping with the original game and style of play, it can become frustrating if you encounter an area of challenge and wish to move on.
The graphics and sound looked better than the original but there are moments where elements clearly seem dated.
The style of gaming is ideal for those who like the arcade-style scrollers of old but for me, I found the gameplay to become a bit repetitive over time despite the new layers of polish.
In the end the game offers some nostalgic and intense action whi h should appeal to fans of the original.
