Reminders Of Him Is A Touching Tale Of Love And Redemption

Kenna Rowan (Maika Monroe) is a young woman trying to get her life back in the new film “Reminders of Him”.  Based on the book of the same name by author Coleen Hoover, the movie deals with themes of love, loss, redemption, and moving on from tragedy.

Kenna has recently been released from prison after serving time for her involvement in an accident. She returns to her small town and finds that the world has moved on but that she is unable to find work due to her recent incarceration.

Barely able to afford her meager apartment based on her part-time job bagging groceries; Kenna meets charismatic bar owner Ledger Ward (Tyriq Withers), who while attracted to Kenna is also the best friend of Kenna’s ex whose death caused Kenna’s incarceration.

Kenna and Ledger never met due to Ledger’s pursuit of a NFL Career and while he does not recognize her, when Kenna attempts to see the daughter, she had while in prison with her departed Boyfriend, things become very complicated.

Her ex’s parents have raised her daughter and have no forgiveness for Kenna as she was the one they blame for the death of their only son. Ledger starts to help Kenna by offering her work at his bar and slowly starts a relationship with her that complicates his life as he is very much a part of Kenna’s daughters’ life and very close with her ex’s parents who see him as a son.

What follows is a very moving and compelling story that had me engaged from the start. The sentimental aspects come across as real and not some manufactured Hollywood themes and work well with the appeal and chemistry amongst the leads.

The romantic moments got loud reactions from many of the college aged and female members of our test screening as I had never heard such a loud reaction for a film of this type before. All of which combines to make the movie a very enjoyable watch and one that should appeal to fans of the book and genre.
