The live-action version of “Moana” has arrived and it is a vibrant and colorful update to the classic Disney animated classic.
Catherine Laga’aia takes on the lead role with Dwayne Johnson returning as the Demi-God Maui.
The new version follows the same story of Moana hearing the call of the sea and sailing to restore an artifact in order to save her people when their island begins to decay.
The dangerous journey has her paired with the disgraced Maui who has been stranded for a thousand years and is not eager to risk his freedom for mortal concerns.
The unlikely pair must face all manner of dangers and challenges to save the day.
The powerful and moving score from Lin Manuel Miranda shines as does his new composition that concludes the film.
The two leads do amazing versions of the hits and seeing Johnson sing his classic tune is a delight.
Australian actress Catherine Laga’aia is a real find as she bribes strength, grit, and compassion to the role and her voice is powerful and engaging.
The lush visuals and animated sidekick round out an enjoyable film that has a few subtle changes from the animated version but still delivers a moving tale of following ones heart and not conforming to the limitations others set on you.
“Moana” is a delight foe fans of the original and makes a perfect film to enjoy with the family.
