Shiftlings: A Funny Space Romp

Let me start by saying Shiftlings does a fantastic job at sucking you into the atmosphere of the game. You play as two dim witted aliens. The gimmick is one will always have an inflated suite while the other will be normal you can switch between them and inflate or deflate either or.

The game is beautiful and I mean stunning at the highest setting. Offline couch co-op is just amazing. Normally I have to buy the game I want to play with my girlfriend twice, however with this we were able to just sit down and play. I wish more developers would add this in.

Difficulty ramps at a fairly even pace throughout the levels. Let’s talk about level variety wile space is a general theme each level and layout feels very different. At the end of each world there is a robot boss fight that can be very intense if you’re going for the no death achievement. In each level are three black hole-a-cola, if you can manage to collect all thirty in a world you will get access to the time trial. Leaderboards are present for all you competitive types out there.

Here’s where I got hooked the premise is the people you are seeing are Television stars and are unaware of that fact is not new. I feel that they sort of reinvented the wheel with reality television watching public are enamored with two space janitors. Watching their day to day hijinks all while the commentator one of the funniest things about the experience throws out quips and describes what the player is doing in game. Now this can go one of two ways. He will annoy you or make you laugh with almost every line even the ones that do get repeated fairly frequently if you do the same wrong thing over and over.

Not meaning to dote on and on especially on something that does not make any game great or poor. These graphics had so much love put into them. Everything looks so polished and bursting with personality. Even the back grounds sometimes have so much going on. The loading screens are short and have really cool art work which changes world to world. The music helps suck you into the experience. While not something I would want to put into my personal collection. It suites this game perfectly.

All in all I think Shiftlings is one of the best looking and solid co-op experiences so far this year well worth the fifteen dollar price line hours of fun that won’t break your bank. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who is in the mood for a quirky puzzler that’s easy on the eyes wallet and ears.
