Here’s Why Fortnite Battle Royale Named Game of the Year

Despite being launched over a year ago, Fortnite Battle Royale picked up another big gong last Friday at the People’s Gaming Awards. Frankly, even with stiff competition from the likes of Forza Horizon 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2, it should come as no surprise.

The 36th edition of the People’s Gaming Awards, otherwise known as the Golden Joystick Awards, has many awards. Fortnite BR scooped the Best Competitive Game award before going on to win the Ultimate Game of the Year title. Here are the reasons why the game still deserves to pick up awards so long after its release.

Fortnite’s Fan Base Continues To Grow

Fortnight is used by over 78 million players each month. The fact that the game is accessible on multiple platforms certainly helps. Meanwhile, the fact that it merges the ‘pick up and play’ ideas for casual gamers with the longevity long-term gamers crave is a major bonus.

The Battle Royale title gains a lot of support from celebrities in the world of music, sport, and movies. When added to the social media influencers, it’s no surprise that the game continues to thrive well into its second year. If anything, the craze is only set to grow.

Fortnite Is For Everyone

Aside from offering something for casual gamers and serious punters alike, Fortnite can be enjoyed by gamers of all ages. The gameplay is simple to enjoy but hard to master while the fact that matches are short and sweet is a recipe for success.

The colorful, simple yet sophisticated graphics are ideal too. It worked well for Minecraft while the success of the redeveloped Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games should not be ignored. The sense of simplicity is great for young gamers while a slice of nostalgia works well for older gamers. Fortnite Battle Royale does a little of both while still offering something new.

Fortnite Is Free

Value for money is an important feature of the gaming experience. You only need to look at casinos with no deposit bonuses to see this in action. Fortnite is free to play – although there are paid features. When added to the fact it can be played on most platforms, getting into the game needn’t cost an arm and a leg. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about competing titles.

EA, for example, continue to use season passes and other features that keep the costs going. This can make the annual cost of playing a single game spiral out of control. Nobody wants to pay hundreds of dollars for a game, even when it’s good. Fortnite is a budget-friendly solution.

Fortnite Is Bigger And Better

There are plenty of titles on the market that offer online player opportunities. However, very few do it to the same degree at Fortnite. The game pits up to 100 players together in a game at any time. Whether you’re looking for the competitive nature of playing people from around the world or you wish to play with mates, Battle Royale has it all.

Of course, you can take the gaming experiences to the next level with headsets and other accessories. However, even the basic setup against 99 other players is truly incredible fun. It’s no surprise that the game is as popular as ever.

Fortnite Is Cross-Platform

Being available on multiple platforms is a great foundation for success. But the fact that it is a cross-platform title only further enhances the enjoyment. Xbox players can actually play against PlayStation friends, which opens doors that were previously shut in the world of gaming.

The mobile version of the game is obviously another major factor as people can play on the go or when they only have a few minutes to spare. Essentially, the level of personalization is second to none, and that encourages players to find a setup that suits them. When gaming is on your terms, it’s impossible not to gain maximized enjoyment.

Fortnite Doesn’t Get Boring

It’s one thing to create a game that entertains and wows players at the start. Developing a game that has the ability to keep the fun rolling on for months and years is another altogether. Epic Games has used the experience of creating the Unreal Tournament, Gears of War, and Infinity Blade franchises to create a behemoth of a game.

The mechanics are the same, but every game of Fortnight Battle Royale offers something new and unique. Given everything else that the popular game has to offer, what’s not to love?
