In 2009, PopCap Games released Plants Vs. Zombies and launched a franchise. Sequels, spin-offs, comics, and other products followed as the series moved from a Tower Defense-style game to a Third-Person open-world shooter.
Plants vs Zombies: Replanted returns the original classic with upgraded graphics and gameplay modes, as well as a few fun tweaks.
Players must plant a variety of flowers to repel Zombie hordes. If a Zombie reaches your door, game over. Sunflowers provide needed sunlight to obtain new flowers, and Peashooters blast attackers. Opting to decide which plant and locale to place your defenses is key, as enemies can come at you from multiple paths.
Walnuts can block an enemy, and Cherries make a nice explosive. New plants arise as the game unfolds, as do new Zombies who wear buckets to absorb more shots or vault over plants. Players do have a line of mowers as a last defense, but they can be used only once as a last resort.
As the levels grew, I remembered how much fun my wife had with the original, and I found myself caught up anew in this great new version.
