In “The Devil Wears Prada 2”, Andy (Anne Hathaway), is now a successful and award-winning journalist who learns that she and her entire staff are being fired due to corporate restructuring.
When a call to return to Runway as the head of features arrives, Andy accepts and is eager to see Nigel (Stanley Tucci) and Miranda (Meryl Streep) again.
Her arrival is met with icy indifference as Miranda was not consulted in her hiring nor does she claim to remember Andy despite having her as an assistant years ago.
Miranda is as cold, calculating, and dismissive as ever as she chides Andy that she will be gone soon enough should her work not generate the views not matter how good the quality may be.
Undaunted; Andy moves ahead to learn the new frontier of combining quality journalism with content that people will actually read in large numbers. Her ability to obtain a reclusive interview moves things ahead when an unexpected event throws things into chaos and forces Nigel, Andy, and Miranda to work to save the day despite all having differing methods and agendas.
Throw in Emily Blunt as Emily who now works with a key designer, and you have a chaotic yet enjoyable reunion that feels comfortable and yet never forced or seemingly fan service.
While I thought that the third act dragged a bit, the winning cast was a delight to see once again and the performances and characters more than kept my attention throughout. Hopefully it will not be twenty years before we see them again as I do think that there are still more adventures that could be told with the characters.
