One of the more interesting takes on the First-Person Shooter genre has arrived with Mouse P.I.for hire. The game casts players in a world filled with Mice, Rats, Shrews, and other animals as a gritty and world-weary P.I. who would fit in perfectly in countless classic movies and shows from the Black and White era.
The game utilizes a black-and-white visual that is in line with the animation from that era and is filled with all kinds of quirky characters and callbacks.
Players will fight waves of enemies, solve puzzles, and battle Boss enemies as they travel about town from locale to locale and then back to the office to unravel the mystery before them.
Players will be able to talk to various characters along the way and gain new weapons as well. The basics include a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and others, such as a clever weapon that dissolves enemies over time.
The level designs are at times challenging but visually engaging as locales such as an Opera House, Subway, Sewers, and more come into play. Players can also use their car to drive to the next assignment, which gives a bit of scale to the community.
The biggest issue players may feel is a sense of redundancy, as after a while, the enemies can seem a bit recycled, and getting through various areas can seem a bit tedious versus engaging, as I can see some players finding the unique visuals and themes of the game wearing off over time.
While a multiplayer mode and co-op would be great, those looking for a fun and at times challenging game will likely find lots to enjoy with the final product.
