Corporate Retreat Is A Gruesome And Dark Horror Thriller

A group of workers set off for what they believe will be another boring corporate retreat without knowing that they are about to take part in a deadly series of events in the new movie “Corporate Retreat”.

A Multi-billion dollar company has recently ousted the overly eccentric founder and has seen its prosperity grow. The key personnel arrive at the scenic retreat and discover that one has brought his girlfriend along. Despite her disinterest in taking part in the events, she is told that she will be a part of them, and the group surrenders their phones to begin.

The sessions begin and seem at first to be nothing but New Age meditation, but soon take a turn when they are told that they have been poisoned and they need to find the cure based on items left to them. The fact that they are locked in with unbreakable glass only adds to the issues.

When this crisis is averted, they learn that their ousted CEO has designed this retreat to put them through a series of deadly games in order to find enlightenment. The games are enforced by gun-wielding assistants who are more than eager to shoot anyone who does not take part or fails to meet the desired expectations of the exercises.

The challenges become more and more gruesome and deadly, and the remaining group soon realizes that nobody is getting out of this retreat unscathed, and the question is raised about how much pain and self-mutilation one is willing to endure in order to try to make it to the end.

The movie is grim, as one sequence alone will cause even the most hardened individuals to be squeamish.  The crux of the film is how much a person is willing to endure for a chance at survival.

The ensemble cast works well despite not having overly developed characters, as aside from knowing one has multiple degrees and another is working towards one in Psychology, we are simply given their names and positions at the company for the most part.

The movie largely works as a thriller, similar to the “SAW” films; there is a chance to survive if you are willing to take extreme measures in some scenarios to survive the next round.

While it can be gruesome, “Corporate Retreat” held my attention and offered enough entertainment value for fans of the genre for me to say that it is worth a watch as long as you do not mind the gore.
