Players will play as different characters depending on the mission but the majority of the time they will play as either Price from the prior games or as a new soldier named Park. Park is a very refreshing entry as he is a South Korean who is doing his two years of required military service. He is not a career soldier or specialist as we have seen in the prior games, he is an ordinary person who while trained, is with his friends doing what is required of them by the law.
When an attack begins, Park must take on a series of missions in order to save his home which are varied and take place in a multitude of locals ranging from a hotel to a nuclear reactor.
The other focus is on Price who has become a renegade from his former team who hunt him relentlessly while he attempts to locate an enemy known as The Archer and deal with echoes of his past.
This goal requires Price to make some uneasy alliances which take him to Paris, Mumbai, and other locales and further increase his conflict as the actions he must take in order to reach his desired target are often in conflict with his moral compass.
The intense storyline is punctuated by great characters as the storyline draws you in and does not let go. The game does not focus on supernatural or science fiction elements which many believe caused some prior campaigns to not meet expectations.
The focus is on story, characters, great settings, and action that combine to make one of the best campaigns ever in the series.
While there are some melee segments that take some getting used to as they are extended more than usual, it is a nice addition. The climatic counter mission was thrilling as the scenes of the team flying into action got me pumped and I was more than ready to dispense some payback and relished every moment.
The game has never looked better graphically and the sound captured the moments perfectly.
There has been some talk that this may be the last in the Modern Warfare series and hopefully that is not the case as while I look forward to seeing a new series in the franchise next year, there is always a place for a solid Modern Warfare game.
